Hyatt Regency Maui Review: Four Nights on Kāʻanapali, With the Folio

An honest Hyatt Regency Maui review from a paid stay — the oceanfront upgrade that cost $90 a night, the $551 cabana mistake, and the $2,592.26 folio.

Verdict
Worth it — book the package, buy the oceanfront upgrade at the desk, skip the second cabana day.

Hotel reviews tell you about the lobby. This one tells you what the hotel charged us. Four nights, two people, booked as a Costco Travel package, August 2026.

The room, and the $90 that changed it

The package came with a partial ocean view. Two phone calls before the trip asking about an upgrade went nowhere — a wholesale booking can't be modified by the hotel. One question at check-in fixed it.

Every Costco perk survived, because the package reservation was never touched. That mechanic is the single most useful thing we learned at this hotel.

What the package was worth

The breakfast was the sleeper win — same terrace every morning, no decisions before coffee. The resort credit came off the folio at checkout.

Where the folio went

Two lines deserve comment. The cabanas: two days running was the least-value $551 on the folio — one day was plenty. The dining: we broke every restaurant out separately, and the poolside grill is where the resort quietly wins the week.

What we'd repeat

  • The check-in double: paid upgrade at the desk, and the same ask at the rental counter (sedan → midsize SUV, no charge).
  • Cancelling the Haleakalā sunrise for a poolside day and a sunset surf.
  • The package breakfast, every morning.

What we'd change

One cabana day, not two. Dinner reservations earlier in the trip. And running an award search before letting convenience price our flights at exactly 1.0 cents a point.

The verdict

For a West Maui resort stay booked as a package: worth it, on the condition that you buy the oceanfront gap at the desk and treat pool days like restaurant days. The full trip-level numbers — package, flights, everything off-property — are in the 4-night cost breakdown.
