What 4 Nights at the Hyatt Regency Maui Actually Cost

A real, itemized trip report from Kāʻanapali — package, folio, dining, cabanas, golf, the upgrades that worked, and what we'd cut next time.

Trip reports usually show you the sunset. This one shows you the folio. Four nights, two people, Hyatt Regency Maui on Kāʻanapali Beach, August 2026 — every real number, and the calls we'd repeat or skip.

The big pieces

The flights line is the 1.0 cpp lesson — exactly one cent a point.

The package carried ~$700 of perks: daily buffet breakfast for two, $150 resort credit, resort fees waived.

Where the folio actually went

CategoryReal cost
Oceanfront upgrade (paid at desk, the play)$360 + ~$67 taxes
Valet parking, 4 nights$220
Pool cabanas × 2 days$551
Golf — Kaʻanapali Kai twilight, 2 players all-in$322
On-property dining (Son'z, Japengo, Umalu, breakfast tips)~$1,516
Resort credit applied−$150

Add off-property spend (airport food, rideshares, bags, gas, sundries) and the cash total for the trip — flights and package aside — landed around $3,760 for two.

The three best moves

The check-in double. One question at the front desk: partial ocean view → oceanfront for $90/night. One question at the rental counter: full-size sedan → midsize SUV. Two upgrades phone calls couldn't produce.

Cancelling Haleakalā sunrise. The drive math from Kāʻanapali doesn't survive contact. We took the sleep.

Sunset surf over a booked excursion. One shop stays open late enough to make an evening session possible (Boss Frog's Lahaina Cannery, till 9) — the kind of fact that shapes a whole day.

What we'd do differently

Cabanas two days running was the least-value $551 on the folio — one day was plenty. Dinner reservations earlier: Merriman's Kapalua closes at 8 and we never found the night. And we'd run a transfer-partner award search before letting convenience price our flights at exactly 1.0 cents a point.

The dining spend deserved its own receipts: where we ate and what it really cost.
